Origin & history
Bergamot is a citrus hybrid whose exact parentage is still unsettled, but its home is Calabria — roughly ninety percent of the world's bergamot oil still comes from fewer than 1,400 hectares there. Its place in perfumery dates to 1676, when Paolo Feminis brought it to Cologne and used it to build the scent that became eau de cologne.
