Origin & history
Castor oil has the longest documented history of anything in our cabinet. Residues have been found on a wooden applicator in South Africa dated to roughly 24,000 years ago. The Ebers Papyrus, written before 1500 BCE, gives the castor bean an entire chapter, including a remedy for baldness. Hippocrates and Dioscorides both recorded medicinal uses for it, among them treatments for the skin.
